Kellie’s Slimdown: Day 4

Time to get off my behind and exercise! I don’t know why I’ve always loathed working out, and I don’t use the term “loathe” lightly. I have been known to make a personal trainer cry. It’s like I feel resentment about it! I just don’t want to HAVE to work out.


And yet I’m super envious of pink-cheeked women walking out of yoga studios looking all sweaty and Zen. I want to be one of those chicks who knows her way around a gym and can rack her own weights. I think, “I just got back from a run,” is about the sexiest thing that can come out of someone’s mouth.


So I’ve joined Larry North’s gym and I’m working out with a new trainer, Angela. I can already tell she’s not going to let me get away with using her as a therapist in order to avoid doing my crunches. I promise I’ll let you know if I ever make her cry! And now that the weather is nicer, I don’t have an excuse not to get out there and walk for at least 20 minutes every day. I’ve got to do it until it becomes a habit, and I want my daughter to get in the habit of doing that with me. That’d be a great time for us to connect — just the two of us. And I’ll be teaching her by example so it’s a win-win!


I also need to go do some grocery shopping. I need to learn how to work in these good fats with my meals.


  • Olive oil — That’s what I have in my pantry now. The other day I asked a girl what dressing she used on her incredible-looking salad, and she said it was olive oil and squeezed lemon. I’m going to have to try that.
  • Raw nuts — Those will take some getting used to. I love them salted and seasoned, and I could easily go through an entire tin of smoked almonds in one sitting. I don’t think that’s what Larry recommends…
  • Avocados — My only problem with them is that I love them TOO much. It’s going to be a test of my will to have just a little bit! I keep seeing recipes for avocados on toast. I might try that.
  • Coconut oil — I’ve never used it before, so I’m going to have to do a few taste tests with this one.


I’m also craving vegetables right now! I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve said that. But right now I want to go to a farmer’s market and load up on cucumbers and bell peppers and tomatoes and squash and zucchini and Brussels sprouts!


Time to start cooking more at home and packaging up stuff so it’s always ready and I don’t have to worry about making bad choices. It’s all about getting my mind right and being prepared!!
